ADOR Insists Keeping Contract With NewJeans Benefits K-pop Industry – Court Battle Continues

ADOR Argues No Grounds for Contract Termination

ADOR stated during the third court hearing on July 24 that maintaining its exclusive contract with NewJeans would benefit all parties, including the K-pop industry. The session was held at the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 41 (Presiding Judge Jung Hoe-il).

The agency referenced the High Court ruling that upheld its request to maintain its management status and prevent NewJeans from signing separate advertising contracts:

“For contract termination, the defendants must prove grounds, but they have failed to do so. Instead, the absence of termination grounds is evident. The court also ruled that unilateral claims cannot end an exclusive contract.”

ADOR further emphasized that it had prepared multiple business plans, including a full-length album, but delays occurred due to the defendants.

“If the contract remains valid, the members can continue top-level entertainment activities, clear their names, and avoid penalties and damage claims. ADOR is still preparing their comeback, so returning would benefit them.”

Potential Fallout for K-pop Industry

The agency warned of major consequences if the contract is terminated:

“Termination will cause severe harm to the members, including loss of full support from ADOR and HYBE, idol image damage, and ongoing legal disputes. ADOR would also face significant losses, potentially risking its survival.”

ADOR also highlighted broader implications:

“If this happens, ADOR can no longer foster talent, and K-pop could face decline. For the members, for ADOR, and for the K-pop industry, their presence is essential.”

Background and Current Status

NewJeans declared termination of their contract in November 2024, citing a complete breakdown of trust. ADOR responded by filing a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the contract and secured an injunction preserving its agency status. Both lower and appellate courts ruled in favor of ADOR.

While ADOR expressed openness to settlement, NewJeans’ legal team made their stance clear:

“Trust has completely collapsed. There is no turning back.”

The next hearing will review ADOR’s detailed written statement countering the group’s termination claims.
