Court Sides with ADOR, but NewJeans to Appeal

ADOR has issued an official statement following the court’s ruling in its favor in the exclusive-contract lawsuit against NewJeans, reaffirming that preparations for the group’s full-length album are complete and that the label is ready to resume promotions “as soon as discussions with the artists allow.”

On October 30, the Seoul Central District Court (Civil Division 41, Chief Judge Jung Hoe-il) ruled that the exclusive contract between ADOR and NewJeans remains legally valid, stating that ADOR “did not violate its obligations as a management agency.” The court also determined that attempts to terminate the agreement based on a perceived “collapse of trust” could not be justified.

In the judgment, the court rejected the argument that former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin’s dismissal alone constituted a breach of contract. It further ruled that Min’s actions — including public statements and campaigns — were not made to protect the artists, but rather to pursue NewJeans’ independence from the label.

ADOR Expresses Gratitude, Cites One-Year Legal Battle

Following the verdict, ADOR expressed gratitude to the court and released an official statement emphasizing that the company has consistently upheld its contractual responsibilities. “For nearly a year since the artists raised the issue of contract termination, multiple courts have reaffirmed that ADOR remains the valid management agency and that NewJeans must continue their activities under this agreement,” the company said.

ADOR added, “As stated during the trial, we have completed all preparations for NewJeans’ upcoming activities, including a full-length album. We will continue discussions with the artists to return to fans as soon as possible.”

In contrast, NewJeans’ representatives stated, “While we respect the court’s decision, the trust between both sides has already been completely broken. It is impossible to continue normal activities under ADOR,” confirming that they intend to file an immediate appeal.

The legal and emotional narratives now stand in direct opposition — the court affirming ADOR’s authority, while NewJeans maintains their refusal to return. As both sides dig in, the future of one of K-pop’s most successful acts remains uncertain.
