ADOR Files Injunction to Prevent NewJeans from Independent Advertising Contracts Amid Contract Dispute
K-pop agency ADOR has filed an injunction against the five members of NewJeans, requesting the court to prohibit them from independently signing advertising contracts. This legal move comes amidst an ongoing exclusive contract dispute between the group and the agency.
ADOR’s Legal Action
On January 13, ADOR announced that they had submitted an injunction to the Seoul Central District Court last week. The filing, titled “Preservation of Agency Status and Prohibition of Independent Advertising Contracts,” aims to confirm ADOR’s position as NewJeans’ management company until the first trial verdict for their exclusive contract validity lawsuit is reached. The agency stated that this injunction seeks to prevent NewJeans members from engaging in independent advertising activities without ADOR’s approval or consent.
Background of the Dispute
The conflict began when NewJeans declared on November 29, 2024, that their exclusive contract with ADOR had been terminated due to alleged breaches of obligations by the agency. However, ADOR maintains that the contract remains valid and has filed a lawsuit to confirm its validity. ADOR claims that NewJeans members have continued to contact advertisers independently and attempt to secure contracts, which they argue could cause confusion and harm to third parties such as advertisers.

Industry Concerns Raised by ADOR
In their injunction filing, ADOR emphasized broader implications for the entertainment industry, stating that if unilateral contract terminations and independent activities without legal procedures become a precedent, it could undermine investment incentives in the K-pop industry and destabilize its foundation. The agency also reiterated its commitment to supporting NewJeans’ activities, including providing resources and planning for projects such as a full-length album release and fan meetings.
ADOR’s Position
ADOR expressed that they have consistently supported NewJeans with resources, facilities, and planning for their entertainment activities. They added that they are currently receiving external proposals for advertisements and events while internally preparing for significant activities in 2025, such as album releases and fan meetings.
