[Knetz Reaction] aespa Karina Apology at Fairy Jaehyung, the Red Jacket Controversy Draws Mixed Responses on 7th

In a recent appearance on the YouTube channel Fairy Jaehyung, Karina of aespa formally apologized for the political controversy sparked by her now-deleted Instagram post, where she was seen wearing a red jumper with a large number “2” on it — a symbol associated with a specific political party during the recent South Korean elections.

Karina explained, “I had no such political intentions at all. I was out with staff, bought a jacket because it was chilly, and posted the photo without realizing the implications. I deleted it after someone reached out.” She added, “It was completely my ignorance. Even if I was overseas, I should’ve known better.”

“I think celebrities can express political views. They can have different political view with me. But supporting a party that was going for martial law and praised by people like Jeon Hangil, Yoon Seoin, and Femco? That’s different. I’m done being a fan.”

@johnlee_polmil
“Unfortunately, adults are judged by results. Hitler probably thought his intentions were good too.”

@xox_uoww32
“Feels like she just went on the show to clear things up. Everything seemed scripted. So fake.”

@rice_pixie
“If she just looked solemn at that awards show instead of laughing, angry stans would’ve ripped apart the opposing side. But her reaction lacked subtlety — and that’s what ruined it.”

@jungdok_tree
“She’s selling sh*ts now, huh?
All her colleagues were cautious not to even throw up a peace sign during that time.
She who knows internet memes, wore a jacket with a huge red ‘2’ during election season — and posted it as a feed post, not even a Instagram Story without intention?”

@joeinkzero
“That post went viral right away. Yet her apology came the next day, and only on Bubble? She’s obviously a #2 voter. SM definitely knew the backlash — they probably had to persuade her to post an apology, that’s why they could immediately followed up with an official statement. That tells you everything.”

However, not all responses were critical. Some fans thought the backlash was unnecessarily harsh and pointed out that she did acknowledge her mistake.

@black_ae_
“Some people are just mean.
If she hadn’t explained, they’d attack her for staying silent. Now that she has, they mock her for speaking. She admitted she was wrong and reflected — what more do you want?”
