The story of Huang Weijin ‘LE SSERAFIM SEXUAL HARASSMENT’
Taiwanese singer and actor Hwang Weijin, Chen Ming-ju and Ogang appeared as white team members in the NHK KOUHAKU UTA GASSEN, a special program for Chuseok in China that aired on January 27th (local time). The NHK KOUHAKU UTA GASSEN specially invited girl group LE SSERAFIM, who performed in the finale.
The problem arose when Hwang Weijin made sexual harassment before LE SSERAFIM’s performance. The show arranged a food tasting event, and when LE SSERAFIM tried to eat sweet potato balls with bamboo skewers before the performance, Hwang Weijin said, “I want to put them in. Those sweet potato balls underneath them.” “Weijin, I think you made a mistake,” said the cast member Sasha, who was with them. Hwang Weijin quickly explained, “I just wanted to eat the same meal as them, and I had no other intention.”
His apology
After the show aired, many fans angrily criticized Hwang Weijin for his sexual intentions and said it was sexual harassment on LE SSERAFIM. Hwang Weijin apologized for this by posting an apology on his social media. It was posted in the early morning of Friday (local time). “All the members were eating foods one by one. It was Yunjin’s turn to eat sweet potato balls,” he said. “I didn’t want to make the eating process awkward.”
“I know everyone misunderstood my words, but what I wanted to say in my heart was, ‘I’m happy to share delicious food with my favorite idol,'” he said. He tried to clear that he had no other intention. Although Hwang Weijin apologized, many still criticize his words, saying it is just an excuse.
How do you think about his apology? Was it misunderstanding?
