BTOB left CUBE
BTOB left CUBE after 11 years. They debuted at CUBE entertainment, and they signed to the contract twice. CUBE announced they won’t have next exclusive contract after deep discussion on November 6th. CUBE entertainment has thanked to BTOB and its fandom for 11 years of their hardworking. The group has said bye to the company, and they are seeking for new house that they could move on as complete ‘BTOB’, the 6 members. So everyone in the field knows, that the group will be keep being ‘BTOB’.
Idol group name right problem
However, everyone’s concern is if they could keep the name ‘BTOB’ even after BTOB left CUBE entertainment. Mostly, the company is the one who keeps the copyright of the name. As they are the one who makes the brand they get the right at first. It isn’t problem until the artists depart from the agency. The agency won’t give the name easily to the original groups, so sometimes they have to change their names.
The examples of the artists would be ‘Highlight’ and ‘BB girls’. ‘Highlight’ previous name was ‘B2ST’, but as they left CUBE they could not use the original name. So they changed their name to it, and made their career once again. ‘BB girls’ was formerly ‘Brave Girls’ from ‘Brave Entertainment’. As they left the agency, they hah to change the name, and they picked BB to replace Brave. So the groups are remaining but the names aren’t.
What is happening between BTOB and CUBE
After BTOB left CUBE entertainment, CUBE entertainment mentioned about the trademark right. “We are talking with the members about trademark rights and discussing positively,” the company explained. According to some news outlets, the agency suggested to the group, that the members pay the company every time they use the name. So it will be win-win strategy for company and the group. However, nothing is decided so it is gaining attention.
