BTS Busan Concert 2026 President Lee Vows to Root Out “Vicious” Price Gouging Ahead of Anniversary Show

As BTS prepares for their first full-group concert in four years, a controversy over “price gouging” at accommodations in Busan is escalating. Following reports of hotel rates skyrocketing to ten times their usual price, President Lee Jae-myung and the Busan Metropolitan Government have stepped in with a strong warning to protect global fans.

Skyrocketing Prices Near the BTS Debut Anniversary BTS is scheduled to perform at the Busan stop of their 2026 world tour on June 12 and 13. Since June 13 marks the group’s 13th debut anniversary, the demand for lodging has been explosive. However, some accommodations have reportedly hiked one-night rates to over 1 million KRW, while others have unilaterally canceled existing reservations to relist rooms at much higher prices, sparking outrage across social media.

Presidential Warning Against “Vicious Market Exploitation” In response to the public outcry, President Lee Jae-myung addressed the issue directly on his official SNS. He criticized the practice as a “vicious tyranny that destroys market order and inflicts great harm on everyone.” The President’s firm stance indicates that the South Korean government views the success of the BTS tour as a matter of national prestige, vowing that “penalties must far outweigh any unjust gains.”

Busan City Launches QR Reporting System for Global Fans To ensure a safe and fair experience for both domestic and international ARMYs, Busan City has launched a “Price Gouging QR Reporting System.” Visitors can scan a QR code at hotels and guesthouses to report unfair fees directly to the Korea Tourism Organization and local authorities. Mayor Park Heong-joon emphasized that the city will mobilize all administrative resources to prevent unfair transactions and ensure the concert’s success.

The Road to ‘ARIRANG’: A Historic Return for BTS Despite the controversy, anticipation remains at an all-time high as BTS prepares to release their new studio album, ‘ARIRANG,’ on March 20. This marks their first full-length album in over six years, kicking off a massive 79-show world tour. With the government now taking active steps to manage tourism infrastructure, fans are looking forward to a more organized and welcoming environment for the historic Busan shows.
