BTS RM Donates ₩200M to Support Patients: “Honored to Uphold the Value of Life”

RM of BTS (real name Kim Nam-joon) has once again celebrated his birthday with a generous act of giving. On September 12, he donated a total of ₩200 million (approximately $150,000 USD) to support underserved patients and improve medical environments.

The donation was split equally between Seoul Asan Medical Center and Korea University Medical Center, with each receiving ₩100 million. According to the hospitals, the funds will be used for treatment and surgery costs for low-income patients, improvements in clinical environments, and the expansion of essential medical services.

A History of Giving: From Cultural Heritage to Veterans, and Now Healthcare

RM has maintained a tradition of philanthropy on his birthday, making meaningful donations every year that reflect his evolving values.

  • In 2021 and 2022, he donated to the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation, contributing to the preservation of Korean cultural assets abroad.
  • In 2023, he supported the Korean Society for Legal Medicine, focusing on scientific advancement and public interest.
  • In 2024, his donation to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs went toward national veterans funds.
  • Now in 2025, he has chosen to assist medically vulnerable communities, extending his impact into the healthcare field.

“I hope this small gesture brings warmth and hope to patients suffering due to financial hardship,” RM shared.
“It’s meaningful for me to be able to contribute, even in a small way, to the advancement of medicine and the value of life.”

Hospitals Respond: “His Warmth Will Help Patients Heal”

The recipient institutions also expressed deep gratitude.

Seoul Asan Medical Center stated that RM’s donation will be used to support surgery and treatment costs for patients in financial need.

Korea University Medical Center plans to enhance clinical settings and expand access to care, according to Vice President Yoon Eul-sik, who added:

“RM’s warmhearted generosity will provide immense strength to patients in recovery.
We will ensure this precious act of giving continues to grow and help us become a trusted medical institution.”
