BTS takes action!

The group’s BTS issued a warning to the South Korean military communication platform “The Camp,” which used BTS portraits without asking for permission.

On January 9th, Big Hit Music, the agency, said, “Last month, we sent a certificate of contents to The Camp (Military Letter App). We sent it on violation of publicity rights by using portraits and names of BTS without permission from the BTS and the agency.”

The agency added, “We will strengthen monitoring team to catch these problems. We will take stern measures at the agency level for acts that violate the publicity rights of the company and artists who use them commercially.”

Actually THE CAMP’s commercial activities were reportedly first spotted by fans. According to one media outlet, the agency sent a certificate of contents to the operator of ‘The Camp’. They were demanding immediate stop of using BTS members’ portraits and names without permission.

“The Camp” is a well known application, where family members or acquaintances of enlisted trainees can send letters of condolence to the enlisted soliders. However, its management company recently opened an individual community for BTS members with the word “Official.” They started to sell dolls and name tag packages using real names. The agency believes that such behavior infringed on BTS IP. The dolls are said to have been sold at a high price of 56,000 won which is approximately 42 USD.

How it changed?

BTS takes action and in response to HYBE’s protest, ‘The Camp’ operator dropped BTS-related posts and stopped selling dolls and name tag packages immediately. In the case of the community, it is said that fans protested that it was a community created voluntarily. So the community has not dropped and still working.
