BTS V Military Phone Use Controversy: Defense Ministry Denies Preferential Treatment Claims
The South Korean Ministry of National Defense has refuted claims of preferential treatment for BTS member V regarding his mobile phone usage during military service. This statement comes in response to allegations made by Min Heejin, former CEO of ADOR.
On November 20, an online community post titled “Answer to Civil Complaint about Text Message from Min Hee-jin and BTS V” which was sparked previously about V’s phone use in the military. The Defense Ministry provided a clear response, stating that V did not use his cell phone at dawn. According to the ministry, the army training center allows trainees to use phones for one hour on weekends and holidays. They confirmed that V used his phone during permitted afternoon hours, adhering to guidelines.
The ministry emphasized, “There is no instance where V was specifically allowed or tolerated to use a mobile phone outside permitted hours.”
The controversy arose when Min Heejin, appearing on “Kim Young-dae’s School of Music” on October 29, shared that V occasionally calls her from the military. She claimed he sent her a text early in the morning on her birthday, which was just five days after V enlisted in December 2023. Min Heejin expressed gratitude for V’s concern, stating, “Even though I was being treated like this, he contacted me happily and said, ‘Is it okay?'”
The discrepancy between Min’s claims and the official statement has led to public speculation about potential celebrity preferential treatment in the military. The Defense Ministry’s denial of special treatment and clarification of phone usage rules has intensified the debate.
The ministry noted that specific details about individual communications cannot be disclosed due to personal information protection and communication privacy laws.
As this controversy unfolds, attention focuses on the accuracy of Min Heejin’s statements and the broader implications for celebrity treatment in military service.
