“Will I Get Sued for Calling Someone Cha Eunwoo?” Koreans Laugh Off Idol’s Legal Warning

When Cha Eunwoo’s agency announced they were taking legal action against malicious comments and false rumors, many might have expected other idol groups’ fans might be worried. In Korea, some were really worried but in a hilarious way.

The Legal Notice That Got Everyone Talking

On April 25, Cha Eunwoo’s agency, Fantagio released this statement:

“We would like to inform you of the current status of legal action regarding malicious posts and comments related to our artist, Cha Eun-woo. As previously announced, we have taken a strong stance against the spread of false information and malicious content about our artist through SNS and various online communities.

Based on our own monitoring and reports from fans, we have collected posts and comments involving the spread of false information, defamation, and malicious attacks against Cha Eun-woo, and have filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station today (April 25). We will continue ongoing monitoring to protect our artist, and will actively pursue legal action against any acts that infringe on the artist’s rights. We ask that you immediately cease the indiscriminate spreading of false information and malicious posts about the artist. Additionally, all reports and materials sent by fans are greatly assisting our legal response. Thank you once again, and we will continue to do our best to protect our artist.”

“Does Calling Someone Cha Eun-oo Count as Defamation?”

Instead of fear, netizens cracked jokes. It’s common in Korea to say “You’re Cha Eunwoo today!” as a compliment when someone looks especially good – whether it’s a baseball player, or an idol. But since no one really looks like Cha Eunwoo, people started jokingly asking, “If I say someone looks like Cha Eunwoo, am I insulting him?”

Some fans even wondered, “What if Cha Eunwoo thinks it’s offensive to be compared to him?” Others joked about how they’ve been calling their favorite idols “Cha Eunwoo level” and now worry if that could get them in trouble. The humor showed just how much people admire Cha Eunwoo’s visuals.

The “Face Genius” Everyone Knows

Cha Eun-woo’s looks are legendary in Korea. He’s often called a “face genius,” and even other celebrities admit they’re stunned by his appearance. Fans joke that he’s almost too handsome to be real. When Cha Eun-woo once modestly rated his looks as “50 out of 100,” fans responded with playful outrage, saying, “If that’s 50, what are the rest of us?”
