CHUU LAWSUIT
Chuu (real name Kim Ji-woo), a former member of the group LOONA, also won an appeal trial in a lawsuit with her former agency over the exclusive contract.
The Seoul High Court’s Civil Affairs Department 7 (Chief Judge Kang Seung-joon, Kim Min-ah, Yang Seok-yong) ruled on the 8th that Chuu won the plaintiff’s case against former agency Blockberry Creative, saying, “Please confirm that the exclusive contract is ineffective.” The court said, “We judged that the conclusion of the first trial was valid.”
Chuu filed a lawsuit in December 2021 after having a conflict with Blockberry Creative over issues such as earnings settlement. In March last year, the court referred the case to mediation, but the agreement between the two sides failed.
Blockberry claimed that Chuu was removed from the team in November 2022 on the grounds of abuse of power, but Chew has countered that there was no abuse of power and that the profit share was unfair in the exclusive contract.
In December of the same year, Blockberry Creative submitted a petition to the Korea Entertainment Management Association (KMA) Reward and Punishment Committee containing the prohibition of Chu’s entertainment activities, claiming that “Chuu tried to tamper (pre-contact) to sign a new contract with another agency.”

However, regarding Blockberry’s claim, the association said, “The grounds are insufficient. The contents to be judged in the main lawsuit (of the court).”
Since then, the Seoul Northern District Court, the first trial, judged in August last year that “we confirm that the exclusive contract signed in December 2017 between Chu and Blockberry is invalid.”
Chuu debuted as Blockberry’s Loona member in 2017 and was kicked out of the team and agency in November 2022 for allegedly verbally abusing the staff. At the time, she refuted, saying, “I have never done anything to be ashamed of my fans.” Chuu currently has an exclusive contract with ATRP, an agency, and is engaged in various activities across music and entertainment. Chuu lawsuit might be end here, and Chuu could be free from her agency.
