ENHYPEN 2nd Album Cinema Event
The group ENHYPEN will continue its all-time album activities, starting with the release of the concept film.
On the afternoon of June 22, ENHYPEN 2nd album “ROMANCE: UNTOLD Concept Cinema Premier Event” was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
A total of 1,500 ENGENE (ENHYPEN’s official fandom name) attended the event, which began with the hosting of broadcaster Park Kyung-rim. The seven members shared a variety of filming reviews after watching a concept cinema with the audience for a total of 12 minutes of running time.
The concept cinema, which will be released on ENHYPEN’s official channel at midnight on the 23rd, is in contact with the message “If you say yes” that penetrates ENHYPEN’s second full-length album, which will be released on July 12. On top of that, ENHYPEN’s interesting dark fantasy concept, vampire story, and director Lee Choong-hyun’s unique noir code are harmoniously harmonized to complete the highly completed ENHYPEN-ish “Dark Noir.”
ENHYPEN has elevated global music fans’ expectations for its new album through its concept trailer with an unconventional format, including the use of a commercial director while working on its previous album. Ahead of its comeback with its second full-length album, expected to take on a new challenge with Lee Choong-hyun. Lee, who has produced “Call” and “Ballerina,” is a director who boasts an excellent sense of direction with dark chroma.
Lee Choong Hyun
Regarding his first collaboration with ENHYPEN, Lee Choong-hyun said, “This work was very new to me as well. First of all, ENHYPEN members have a clear worldview, and it seems to be the first time in the world to create a concept cinema within that worldview. It was a very fun work for me, too. I participated in BE:LIFT Lab’s proposal because I thought it would be so much fun.”
“The directors who have been with us for so far are great, but when I went to the filming site, they were the movie directors, so the details were definitely different. It was a fascinating experience while filming. I felt like I was filming a short movie,” Jungwon, the leader, said.
The concept cinema, which was first released on the day, depicts a world where the coexistence with vampires is over. The seven vampires decide to leave the hideout as the sun goes down, but they recall Chloe’s existence as the only human being who protected them and made music.
The boys go to save Chloe in order to keep their promise to be together in Riverfield (site name in the HYBE Original Story “DARK MOON” series) even though the vampire-wiping operation has begun. Chloe, which makes the boys sing, refers to an ENGENE that supports ENHYPEN in real life.
“The world view and concept of ENHYPEN members have been clear for a long time. I took that back and came up with a story,” Lee said.
Hee-seung said, “In the case of this concept cinema, it is a story created by two men and women living in a completely different generation, and this is related to our second full-length album. I would appreciate it if you could look forward to the fact that it was created as a cinema with director Lee Choong-hyun’s own action.”
Jake said, “We tried a lot of new things to make our comeback. We tried a lot of new things, including the concept cinema you saw today. So I’m really looking forward to this album. I think you’ll be able to see a lot of different sides of ENHYPEN.”
“It felt different from other music videos or other shootings. I was a little worried because the way we filmed, the camera angle, and the composition were all different challenges for us, but looking at the result, I think it came out so well that I’m satisfied,” he added.
Hake also revealed his thoughts on how he experienced a new field of acting, not on stage. “It was our first time reading lines, so the members had a very difficult time. I practiced a lot with my acting teacher before filming a movie. We exchanged videos and practiced hard because we were on a tour in the U.S. But there are many moments when we had to concentrate on both the stage and filming. I think it was easy to get immersed in this filming as well, probably because they have jobs on stage,” he said.
Action reminiscent of actual battles is a key factor that elevates the movie’s immersion to the highest level. The members performed gun battles and battle scenes after the check-up scene to catch vampire boys, based on agile movements and cool-headed facial expressions. In the slow-motion scene where the scene changes to feel a sense of urgency, Lee Choong-hyun’s delicate control of speed stands out.
It was a challenging challenge for the members as well. “It was a huge new challenge for me as I had an action scene where I shot a gun. I practiced a lot while looking in the mirror. As there are many new challenges, I think I will be able to show more diverse sides of me in the future,” Sunwoo recalled.
Niki said, “It was my first time filming a wire scene, and it was very difficult. I had to use a gun, so I had a lot to pay attention to. The director supported me until I was satisfied, and the result came out really well, and I was satisfied.”
Director Lee Choong-hyun said, “I tried it separately with the martial arts director before filming, but he said that everyone was good at it and that it would be okay to do it on the spot, so there would be no problem. Of course, he instinctively knows how to get shot cool even when he is shot. He also shot coolly.” In response, Hee-seung said, “The martial arts director came to the practice room in advance, so I laid down the mat, rolled forward, and practiced shooting.”
They also had time to pick the best acting member. Hee-seung earned all the votes. “I really don’t think so,” said a shy smile, adding, “I’m so grateful that the members chose me. I hope I have good opportunities with director Lee Choong-hyun in the future.”
Director Lee Choong-hyun praised the members for their acting skills, saying, “There was no NG than I thought. They did everything well.”
