[Exclusive] Was NJZ Fandom’s ‘30,000 Signature Petition’ Inflated? One Person Could Submit Hundreds of Signatures

An investigation has revealed that the number of signatories on the ‘30,000 signature petition’ submitted to the court by NewJeans’ fandom ‘Team Bunnies’, requesting the dismissal of ADOR’s injunction application, may have been significantly inflated. This is because the electronic link used for signatures allowed for duplicate submissions, meaning it was possible for one person to sign hundreds of times.

On March 14, TenAsia obtained the Google Form electronic link used by Team Bunnies during the petition signing period and tested the signing process. Team Bunnies used this electronic link to collect signatures from late February to March 5 and submitted it to the court on March 12 for the hearing on ADOR’s injunction to “preserve agency status and prohibit advertising contract signings.” Although the signed documents have already been submitted to the court, the link has not been removed.

Team Bunnies created the electronic link so that signatories could choose from Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese languages. This was to allow not only domestic fans but also international fans to sign. Importantly, this electronic link did not have a feature to prevent duplicate signatures. While Google Forms provides a function to prevent duplicate signatures, Team Bunnies did not apply this feature to the link.

Our investigation confirmed that through this link, it was possible to submit one petition every 10 seconds at the fastest. It was possible to submit a petition even with carelessly entered information such as names like ‘ㄱㄴㄷ’ and birth dates like January 13, 2025 (yesterday’s date). After one submission, a message saying “Response recorded” appeared, and a “Submit another response” button appeared at the bottom of the screen. Clicking this button immediately returned to the first screen, allowing for another signature.

In addition to this Google Form link for multinational users, Team Bunnies also collected petition signatures through a Google Form for domestic users only (displayed only in Korean) and an electronic signature platform called Glossign. Signatures through these channels had features to prevent duplicate signatures. The feature to prevent duplicate signatures was not applied only to the global target link, which could have the most participants.
