Choi, the former idol rapper
Prosecutors demanded a three-year prison term in a final trial for idol-turned-rapper Choi, who illegally filmed the body of a woman he had dated.
The prosecution asked the court to sentence Choi to three years in prison at the trial date on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act (filming and detaining using cameras and other devices) held by Judge Hong Da Sun of the Seoul Western District Court on the 29th.
The prosecution said, “Please take into account the poor nature of the defendant’s crime and the victims’ petition for severe punishment.”
According to prosecutors, Choi is suspected of illegally filming the victim’s body parts and sexual intercourse scenes eight times between July 2022 and May 2023. Three victims have been identified.
Choi was found to have illegally taken photos by installing a mobile phone camera in advance at an angle that is difficult to cover or recognize the victim’s eyes. Yongsan Police Station, which received the case, sent Choi to the prosecution in September last year, and Choi was indicted without detention in December and tried.
Choi’s lawyer asked for leniency, saying, “The defendant is repenting and expressing his intention to apologize. We are doing our best to recover from the damage.” In his final statement, Choi said, “Throughout this incident, I realized how pathetic I was and should not have done something. I sincerely apologize to the victims.”
However, the victims who attended the trial said, “All the contact that Choi made with us was an agreement after he was expelled from his university last month. So far, there has been no proper attempt to recover from the damage,” and filed a petition for stern punishment against Choi, the former idol rapper.
Meanwhile, Choi debuted as a five-member idol group in 2017 and suspended his career in 2019 due to health reasons and became an former idol rapper. Choi’s sentencing date is June 26.
