Former NCT Taeil Taken Into Custody in Front of Fans at Court
Former NCT Taeil (real name Moon Taeil) has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison and taken into custody for his involvement in a sexual assault case.
On July 10, the Seoul Central District Court’s 26th Criminal Division held a sentencing hearing for Taeil and two others who were charged with violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (Aggravated Quasi-Rape).
During the hearing, the court stated, “Although the defendants turned themselves in and admitted to their crimes, by the time of surrender, objective evidence had already been collected and their whereabouts identified. Taking all sentencing conditions into account, the court sentences the defendants to three years and six months in prison.”
Additionally, the court ordered each defendant to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and imposed a five-year employment restriction in institutions related to children and adolescents. The judge also issued an arrest warrant, leading to Taeil’s immediate detention.
Many of Taeil’s family members, acquaintances, and fans were present in the courtroom and witnessed him being taken into custody. Individuals believed to be his parents were seen in tears, and were escorted out of the courtroom by others.
Taeil was previously indicted without detention in March 2024 for allegedly raping an intoxicated foreign woman along with two acquaintances in June of that year. During the first trial held last month on June 18, all three defendants admitted to the charges. The prosecution demanded a seven-year prison sentence and also requested that the court mandate sex offender treatment programs, disclosure of personal information, and employment restrictions.
