Former NCT TAEIL has abandoned
SM Entertainment has terminated its exclusive contract with Taeil, a former NCT member who was caught up in sex crimes.
On the 16th, Taeil’s agency SM Entertainment said, “We would like to inform you that our exclusive contract with Taeil has been terminated as of October 15, 2024. Taeil is currently under prosecution investigation for a criminal complaint case, which is not only a reason for termination under the exclusive contract, but also because he can no longer continue his trust as an artist, we have decided to terminate the exclusive contract under his agreement.”
The agency bowed their head and apologized, saying, “Once again, we apologize for causing concern for Taeil, who was our artist.”
Earlier, SM Entertainment said on June 28 that it confirmed that NCT Taeil had been accused in a criminal case involving sex crimes and that he had withdrawn from NCT. This month, it was reported that Taeil was handed over to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on special charges of rape.
Former NCT Taeil is accused of sexually assaulting a drunk woman with two acquaintances in June. The special quasi-rape charges applied to Taeil are established when he possesses a weapon or two or more people jointly commit adultery with someone who is unable to protest, such as mental and physical loss, and if the charges are admitted, he or she will be sentenced to seven years or more in prison or life imprisonment in accordance with Article 4 (1) of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.
Amid the ongoing investigation of Taeil, who is suspected of collective sexual assault, SM Entertainment also announced the termination of the contract.
