Former The Boyz Ju Haknyeon Cleared of Prostitution Allegations, Plans Legal Action?

Police decide not to indict Ju Haknyeon, clearing him of prostitution allegations

Ju Haknyeon, a former member of K-pop group THE BOYZ, who recently faced controversy over alleged prostitution, has been cleared of the charges and is expected to take legal action against false accusations.

On July 2, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that it had decided not to refer Ju Haknyeon’s case for prosecution. The decision, made on June 25, concerned allegations that he violated the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Arranging Sexual Traffic.

Police concluded that the complaint was based solely on online news reports and lacked sufficient grounds or specific circumstances to warrant an investigation.

Previously, a media outlet reported that former The Boyz Ju Haknyeon had allegedly engaged in prostitution with former porn actress Asuka Kirara at a private bar in Tokyo, Japan, in late May. The report claimed that the two had physical contact, including hugging, and alleged paid sexual services.

Following the article, a citizen filed a complaint via Korea’s official public complaint portal on June 19, requesting the Gangnam Police to investigate Ju Haknyeon for violating prostitution laws. The complainant also called for an investigation into an unnamed former producer at his agency and the possible corporate liability under joint penal provisions.

As the controversy continued to escalate, his agency ONEHUNDRED stated that the severity of the issue made it difficult to maintain trust in Ju Haknyeon. The agency then announced his removal from the team and the termination of his exclusive contract.

Ju Haknyeon admitted to meeting Asuka Kirara but denied any prostitution, firmly asserting his innocence. He stated, “If there is any evidence of prostitution, please release it immediately. I have never left the group, nor did I agree to terminate my contract.”

He also announced that he would file a counter-suit for false accusation against the unidentified individual who submitted the complaint. Additionally, he plans to sue the media outlet and the reporter who first published the story, and said he is pursuing a civil suit as well.

In response, ONEHUNDRED expressed regret over former The Boyz Ju Haknyeon’s statement, calling it an evasion of responsibility and a distortion of facts, and hinted at taking legal action of their own.
