G-Dragon in Space! First Korean Artist to Collaborate with SETI
G-Dragon Becomes First Korean Artist to Join SETI with Space Music Project
K-pop icon G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong) is making history by collaborating with KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and AI entertainment tech company Galaxy Corporation to launch his music and a Microsoft Azure OpenAI-powered music video, Sora, into space. This groundbreaking project, which combines AI technology, space science, and entertainment, officially kicks off on April 9 at 8 PM KST at the KAIST Satellite Research Center.
A Historic Collaboration with SETI
This initiative is part of NASA’s Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program, making G-Dragon the first Korean artist to participate in this global project. SETI previously gained attention for sending The Beatles’ music into space. Now, G-Dragon’s work will join this legacy, symbolizing a significant cultural milestone for South Korea.
The project aims to preserve humanity’s cultural content in space while exploring potential communication with extraterrestrial civilizations. It is being hailed as an artistic experiment that transcends music and serves as a bridge between cultures and advanced technology.

AI Meets Space and Music
At the heart of the project is Sora, a music video created using Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI technology. This collaboration between G-Dragon and Microsoft highlights the fusion of music, visuals, and artificial intelligence. As an adjunct professor in KAIST’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, G-Dragon has consistently shown interest in science-based art projects, further solidifying his role as a pioneer in merging entertainment with cutting-edge technology.
A New Era of Entertainment Tech
Galaxy Corporation, which has been working closely with KAIST since last year, emphasized the importance of this project as a milestone in “entertainment tech.” By combining space science and AI-driven content creation, the initiative sets a new benchmark for the future of global entertainment.
