JTBC Girls on Fire Top 5 Debut Plans Canceled: Yang Yi-re and Kang Yoon-jung Respond
JTBC’s survival program ‘Girls on Fire’ has faced disappointment as the debut plans for the Top 5 contestants have been officially canceled. On December 23, 2024, Yang Yi-re, who ranked fifth in the competition, took to her personal social media account to share the unfortunate news with her fans.
Yang Yire Expresses Disappointment Over Debut Cancellation
Yang Yi-re stated, “It’s already been almost six months, and many of you have been eagerly waiting for our debut. Unfortunately, the debut of the ‘Girls on Fire’ Top 5 group that we all anticipated has been canceled.” Despite this setback, she remains hopeful about her future in music, adding, “I won’t give up on my dream. I’m still working hard on songwriting and composing.”
She emphasized her aspiration to become a singer who can communicate dreams and hope through music. Yang Yi-re expressed her desire to find a label and producer that will help her grow as an artist.
Kang Yoon-jung Addresses Fans’ Concerns
Kang Yoon-jung, who placed fourth in ‘Girls on Fire,’ also shared her feelings about the cancellation. She explained that the debut was called off due to circumstances with the agency that was supposed to collaborate with the final five winners. Kang Yoon-jung apologized to fans for not being able to showcase the chemistry of the group but encouraged them to support their individual musical pursuits.
A History of Debut Cancellations in JTBC Survival Programs
This cancellation is not the first for JTBC survival programs. In 2017, JTBC collaborated with YG Entertainment for the ‘MIX-NINE’ program, where a nine-member male team was selected for debut. However, YG Entertainment later announced that it was impossible to fulfill the promised activities within four months due to scheduling conflicts, leading to another disappointing cancellation.
As fans process this news, both Yang Yi-re and Kang Yoon-jung remain determined to pursue their dreams in music, hoping for future opportunities despite this setback.
