HYBE Retains Best Workplace Certification Amid Allegations of Workplace Harassment and Industrial Accident Cover-Up
HYBE, the entertainment agency having controversy with NewJeans, has maintained its designation as a ‘Best Workplace’ despite facing serious allegations of workplace harassment involving member Hanni and claims regarding the concealment of industrial accidents. On December 30, South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that a review committee had decided to uphold HYBE’s certification after determining there was no evidence of legal violations.
Key Findings from the Ministry of Employment and Labor
- Workplace Harassment Allegations
The Ministry concluded that Hanni does not qualify as an employee under the Labor Standards Act, which prohibits workplace harassment. Consequently, the law could not be applied to her situation. - Industrial Accident Cover-Up Claims
Regarding allegations that HYBE concealed an industrial accident, the Ministry stated that there was no evidence to confirm that the deceased individual’s illness was work-related. Furthermore, no industrial accident claim had been filed with the Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service. Without such claims, the Ministry found it challenging to establish any wrongdoing. - Supplier Abuse Allegations
The Ministry also reviewed allegations of unfair treatment toward subcontractors but found no significant grounds to revoke HYBE’s certification.

Background on the ‘Best Workplace’ Certification
The ‘Best Workplace’ designation is awarded annually by the Ministry of Employment and Labor to 100 companies that excel in creating quality jobs and improving working conditions. HYBE received this honor in September 2024 for its contributions to employment practices, including flexible work arrangements and family-friendly policies.
