Jeon Somi Shares Why It Took 2 Years to Release ‘Chaotic & Confused’
Jeon Somi recently gave an interview to mark the release of her second EP, Chaotic & Confused, arriving nearly two years after her first EP Game Plan in August 2023.
The new album captures her growth as an artist through candid stories, musical experimentation, and emotional honesty. Its five tracks explore themes of chaos, artistic struggles, and inner conflict, with lyrics like “My voice goes hoarse as I duel with myself” reflecting intense self-reflection and self-discovery.
Tracklist and Musical Direction
The EP includes:
- CLOSER — Title track with a new genre experiment called “starter house”
- Escapade — Expresses the emotions of a reckless and daring relationship
- EXTRA — Minimal yet sensuous track capturing isolation and loneliness
- Chaotic & Confused — Playfully portrays an unpredictable whirlwind of emotions
- DELU — Conveys misaligned emotions and the end of love with emotional depth
Somi participated in writing and composing all tracks except CLOSER, adding authenticity to the album.
The Meaning Behind ‘Chaotic & Confused’
“It’s an album about my confusing times,” Somi said. “I didn’t set a fixed concept from the start. I chose songs that best expressed me at the time, and they naturally felt chaotic. Each track had a different concept and genre, so I decided to bring them together under the title Chaotic & Confused.”
She also spoke about the challenges of being a young solo artist:
“It’s been 10 years since I debuted, but I’m still young. As a solo artist, there’s always pressure to show something new and fresh. That constant assignment made me feel confused, but it also helped me create a more mature album.”
Addressing the Long Gap Between Releases
While fans noted the long wait, Somi explained that she hadn’t been resting:
“I was always preparing for an album and working on self-development. I listened to advice, learned, and grew during that time. When I felt ready, I decided to come back. I think I’ll only return when I’m fully prepared.”
Looking Ahead
Somi described each album as a diary and said she isn’t sure what stories will come next:
“I want to keep releasing albums that make people curious.”
Chaotic & Confused will be released on the 11th.
