The Met Gala, which typically holds on the first Monday of May and is a benefit for the museum’s Costume Institute, is recognized as one of the biggest events in fashion. The gala started in 1948 as a simple fundraiser, but now it raises millions of dollars which is keep the Costume Institute to work.
As it is the big event, everyone keep attention on it. Not just the ceremony, but even on the topics. MET GALA has announced its theme for 2024 ceremony. It would be “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. So not like last year, respecting a designer it would be fairytale. Modern, chic, and elegant Karl Lagerfeld’s 2023 and fariytale, dramatic, dreamlike 2024. It seems they are wanting to get opposite mood of last year.
K-POP artists in MET GALA
MET GALA is exclusive, not opened to all who wants to participate. Mostly, they get invited to the show individually or they get invitation through the brands. Some K-POP artists were invited to MET GALA. In this article, we will look for those artists. (especially K-POP idols)
Super Junior Choi Si Won
Choi Si Won was the first K-pop artist to get invited to MET GALA. He attended to 2013 MET GALA, ‘PUNK: Chaos to Couture’. It wasn’t just him, but PSY was there, too. He was there outshining on the red carpet, with the elegant attitude.
BlackPink ROSÉ and CL
BlackPink Rosé and CL were invited to the same MET GALA, 2021 ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. They were the first female K-POP idols to be invited. Rosé, the ambassador of Yves Saint Laurent, wore a minidress of the brand. She had a bold necklace to grab attention of people. CL interpreted the theme as ‘jeans’, being American was jeans. She wore a dress of jeans.
NCT Johnny
NCT Johnny was invited to 2022 MET GALA, ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’. He was wearing all black suit without shirt. Shirtless, but classic fashion matched him well.
BlackPink Jennie
BlackPink Jennie attended 2023 MET GALA, ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty’. It was obvious that she attended, as she was the muse of CHANEL, and she was the last chosen muse of Karl himself. She wore the simple minidress showing her shoulder.
