Kep1er disbanding becomes a reality
Girl group Kep1er ends its two-and-a-half-year journey.
According to the exclusive coverage of one Korean news outlet, Star News on the 25th, Kepler will return to their original agencies after July. They will hold a concert with their album activities before the end of their promotions and say their final goodbye to their fans.
Kepler is a multinational nine-member project girl group created through Mnet’s survival audition program “Girls Planet 999,” which ended in October 2021. (ZEROBASEONE is the next season winning components following Kepler and ‘Girls Planet’) Kepler, who first entered the K-pop market with the release of their first mini-album “FIRST IMPACT” in January 2022, debuted with a two-and-a-half-year period of activities and will end his contract in July 2024.
As they were made under an audition program, the majority of the members who had agencies, had to sign a contract with Wake One and Swing entertainment for 2 years and 6 months. Wake One and Swing had the rights as the members’ agencies prior than original agencies for the period, but as the contract ends the members are now going back to its original agency.
However, despite the short period of time, Kepler has achieved remarkable results in the global music market beyond Korea, so the main executives of all members’ agencies gathered last year to discuss extending the project’s activities. Afterwards, Kepler’s agency Wake One said, “We will continue to discuss extending activities with each other” ahead of the expiration of the contract. If the issue is successful, Wake One and Kepler’s agency viewed the extension of their activities as positively as possible, as it would be the first idol group created by an audition program to extend their contract. Unfortunately, however, Kepler recently decided not to extend its activities.
Meanwhile, Kepler will release its first full-length album, “Kep1Going,” on May 8.
