Kim Saeron’s Family Alleges Kim Soohyun Sexually Abused Her starting in Middle School, Files Criminal Complaint
Family claims sexual abuse began during her 8th-grade winter break and demands legal accountability
The family of late actress Kim Sae-ron has filed a criminal complaint against actor Kim Soo-hyun, alleging he committed sexual abuse starting when Kim was in the 8th grade, and that he violated the Child Welfare Act.
On May 7, attorney Bu Ji-seok of law firm Buyu, representing the family, held a press conference and stated that the actor had been formally accused of violating child protection laws and of false accusation (criminal defamation).
“We have confirmed that Kim Soo-hyun engaged in sexually abusive behavior, including lewd acts and harassment, toward the late Kim Sae-ron from the winter break of her second year in middle school, when she was still a minor,” the family claimed.
They reiterated that the two had been in a relationship while she was underage and stated that Kim had wrongfully filed defamation lawsuits against the family to suppress the truth.
The family further revealed that a whistleblower who refused an alleged offer of billions of won for key evidence was attacked with a weapon, prompting them to file for police protection for both the whistleblower and YouTube channel operator Kim Sae-ui(Garo Sero Institute), who has been publicly supporting the family’s claims.

This is Bu Ji-seok, representative attorney of the law firm Buyu and legal representative of the late Kim Sae-ron’s family.
We held a press conference on March 27. The reason was to put an end to the ongoing controversy by presenting evidence that the late Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun had a romantic relationship while she was still a minor. The family initially hoped for an apology from Kim Soo-hyun. However, what they received in return were damage claims amounting to approximately 12 billion KRW and lawsuits. Kim Soo-hyun has consistently denied any romantic involvement with the late Kim Sae-ron during her minor years and stated in a press conference that he would prove the truth through legal means. The family has been cooperating with the investigation and providing all requested materials.
Despite claiming to seek the truth through official investigations, Kim Soo-hyun has repeatedly alleged that the evidence was fabricated. YouTubers including Lee Jin-ho have echoed his claims without clear basis. Kim Soo-hyun has also filed multiple lawsuits against the family. Nevertheless, the family maintained a stance of non-response, trusting that the truth would be revealed through proper legal channels.
Recently, a whistleblower helping the family claimed they were offered billions of won in exchange for their evidence. Upon refusing, they allegedly faced a serious threat to their safety. Due to this urgent situation, we ask for your understanding in holding this second press conference.
Today, the family, through our law firm, filed a criminal complaint against Kim Soo-hyun for violating the Child Welfare Act and for false accusation. Article 17, Section 2 of the Act punishes those who force or mediate lewd conduct or sexual harassment involving minors. The family claims that Kim Soo-hyun made lewd requests and sexually harassed the late Kim Sae-ron from the winter break of her second year in middle school, and thus filed the complaint.
The family also asserts that Kim Soo-hyun dated the late Kim Sae-ron while she was still underage. Despite this, he filed a defamation suit against the family, accusing them of spreading false information. Therefore, the family has also filed a complaint for false accusation, claiming that his actions were intended to lead to their criminal punishment.
In addition to the complaint, we have submitted a request for investigation to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. As mentioned earlier, the whistleblower was attacked with a weapon and nearly lost their life. Investigations revealed that the attacker was a Chinese-Korean national who had arrived in the U.S. only a few days earlier, and that the person who brought the attacker to the scene was a Korean who had also recently entered the U.S. We have requested a full investigation into the identity of this individual and the circumstances of the attack.
Furthermore, suspected stalking activity has been observed near the home of the late Kim Sae-ron’s aunt. We earnestly request police protection for both the family and Kim Se-eui.
