Min Hee Jin and Source Music, amid Lawsuit

The legal dispute between Min Hee-jin, former CEO of ADOR, and Source Music is set to intensify as both parties prepare for their first court hearing on January 10, 2025. The Seoul Western District Court’s 12th Civil Affairs Department (B) will hear the 500 million won damage lawsuit filed by Source Music against Min Hee-jin in July of this year.

In response to the lawsuit, a representative for Min Hee-jin told Star News on the 21st, “Source Music’s claims are sophistry and false facts,” adding, “We plan to take strong legal action against this.”

Source Music has been seeking compensation for damages related to Min Heejin’s claims about New Jeans’ debut. In a previous press conference, Min Hee Jin alleged that Source Music neglected some NewJeans members who were formerly associated with the company. She also raised issues about LE SSERAFIM debuting before NewJeans.

Countering these claims, Source Music stated, “Min Hee Jin’s assertion that Source Music copied her launching strategy is false. Source Music has never copied the CBO’s launching strategy from when Min Hee Jin was CBO, nor have we acknowledged the contents of Min’s complaints.”

The company further clarified, “Chairman Bang Si Hyuk’s opinion on the launching strategy proposed by the CBO in May 2020 was to realize the proposal through a ‘new team’ in the label to be established by Min CBO, not the N team. Representative Min is well aware of the discussion at the time but is distorting the facts as if Chairman Bang suggested implementing her launching strategy through the N team.”

Source Music emphasized, “Min Hee-jin continues to spread false information related to Source Music. In addition to the damage lawsuit already filed against Min, we plan to respond strongly to this case as well. We are willing to disclose our data at any time if necessary to clarify the truth.”

Coincidentally, Min Hee Jin is also facing another lawsuit in the same court. The 12th Civil Affairs Department (C) of the Seoul Western District Court will hold the first hearing on January 10, 2025, for a 2 billion won damage lawsuit filed by Billifrap, an affiliate of ADOR, against Min Hee-jin in connection with the Irish plagiarism controversy.

This ongoing legal saga highlights the complexities within the K-pop industry, where management disputes can have far-reaching effects on artists and their careers. As the court dates approach, industry observers and fans alike will be closely watching the developments in these high-profile cases.
