MAMAMOO Moon Byul honest confession
Girl group MAMAMOO Moon Byul confessed that she had a hard time working as a rapper in a group.
Recently, Moonbyul had exclusive interview with Star News at a cafe in Jung-gu, Seoul, and talked about her first full-length album, Starlit of Muse, which will be released on the 20th. According to Moonbyul, the title, ‘Starlit of Muse,’ literally meaning the starlight of muse. Moonbyul is the muse, and the artwork of her is in the album. So in this album, Moonbyul transformed into nine goddesses who are in charge of music and art in Greek&Roman mythology. She became the goddess, and it drags attention from many K-pop fans by the concept. This is also Moonbyul’s first full-length album in nine years and eight months since her debut.

“I debuted as a rapper, but I was a rapper who didn’t want to rap. I always asked myself ‘why do I have to rap’,” Moonbyul said. “It was the hard to survive from the three vocalists (Mamamoo 3 members). At the time, I had a hard time just kept asking myself, ‘Why am I not a vocalist?'” she said.
However, she said those experiences became good fertilizers. Moonbyul said, “But the experience as Mamamoo rapper was amazing. As a solo artist, now I can show many different colors by that experience. So I think I can see my identity.” She even added that Mamamoo members were her great teachers.
Moon Byul’s passion for singing has not changed. “I’m not that greedy to be praised as a good rapper. I just wanted not to be criticized by others. However, as a vocalist now I want to hear compliments for singing well. I want to hear opinions from fans such as “Was she that talent in singing?” and “There is no boredom in music.”
Moonbyul said that she now wants to perform proudly in public as a solo artist. She said, “A person who is good at everything is an artist. I think rap has been beneficial in that angle. I want to show you various genres of songs that I can do. I hope you show interest in my songs.”
