NCT DREAM Smoothie showcase was held today. A press conference to commemorate the release of NCT DREAM’s new album “DREAM( )SCAPE” was held at Grand Walkerhill Seoul in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of March 25.
This album depicts the first journey of NCT DREAM to escape from reality that is full of dark and difficult situations, and to find an ideal dream. Through this, they sympathize with the worries and pains of young people living in the same era, and deliver a warm message of comfort and support.
TALK OF NCT DREAM SMOOTHIE SHOWCASE
Mark said, “There are a total of six songs in the album, and Smoothie is the title track. The album has a clear message. Since our debut, we have been a team that gives dreams and healing to the people, but this time, we made the album sending a message to our friends who do not have dreams. As we have prepared hard, I hope you will show a lot of interest and expectation.” Jeno talked about the name of the album, “It has the meaning of escape. It becomes a door. It means escaping from a dream, expressed by parentheses.”
NCT DREAM actively participated from the initial stage, from deciding the album’s theme of Dream Escape. Renjun said, “If you look at the trailer, you can see a picture of a person who has wore neatly, but feet with scars. Everyone looks fine outside, but in fact, there will be a lot of hurt somewhere and we tried to express it.” NCT DREAM Smoothie also has a meaning to make a smoothie of bad messages from outside.” Jeno added, “Renjun came up with a lot of ideas. This album was produced based on Renjun’s and other members’ opinions.”
Renjun said, “We have shown a lot of dreams, passion, and hope, and now that I think about it, I want to be supportive to those who do not have dreams and hopes, too. As soon as I thought that there might be no dreams and hopes, I started thinking, “What about use this concept as our next album?”
Haechan said, “We also paid a lot of attention to the track layout and sound. When we thought about wanting to go one step further, we approached it thinking about the way of how we could make a better album, and I think we came out with a good quality album.”
NCT DREAM Smoothie, the title song
The title song of NCT Dream Smoothie is a hip-hop dance song with an impressive 808 bass line, and confidently conveys the message that the world will drink all of its cold eyes toward me and negative feelings about itself like a smoothie.
Mark said, “When it comes to smoothies, I usually think of a refreshing and sweet image, but the color of the smoothie in the music video is black to make it unexpected. We’ll grind and swallow all negative and bad thoughts, and it contains the ambition and ambition to digest them.” Renjun added, “There are a lot of bad sounds, prejudices, and judgments that come from outside in life, but I’ll ignore them and grind them like smoothies, and it’s a song that shows the force to go my way without caring about them.”
“I thought it was a song that could express us the best. We chose the title song because we are confident in performances and when we put the performance on this song we thought it would be great,” Haechan said. “Overall, it’s a fierce choreography. It’s a very difficult choreography, but I think it’s more attractive because we differentiated it into a relaxed choreography in the chorus.” Renjun said, “The chorus of verses 1, 2, and 3 are all different. We tried to put the best in the choreography, and it came out with 3 different choreography.”
The Preparation of Dream Escape
Mark said, “We’ve talked about these plans and ideas since last year. We were preparing for the album ‘ISTJ’ at the time, but we talked to the company in advance and said we wanted to produce it with this idea next year. That’s why it seems natural to be released this year.”
Haechan said, “The fans may feel unfamiliar about this concept, but I hope you feel that we are a team that can do this without setting us in any genre or concept, and that we are good at this.”
About the trailer video, which drew attention, Mark said, “We tried acting this time, and I thought NCT Dream was good at acting. Renjun’s acting was great,” and Renjun said, “When I expressed my feelings in that situation, I thought I would be less ashamed to end it at once because I thought the camera and staff were watching me. I sympathized so much with myself in the story that I think I did it professionally at once.”
Mark also said, “We shared a lot of opinions visually as well as lyrics and ideas. I know that visuals such as concerts and music video outfits are important, so I came up with a lot of ideas about them.”
