New Jeans Ditto as one of Best songs of 2020s
Group New Jeans’ “Ditto” was named one of the “2020s Best Songs” by the American music magazine Paste.
Paste recently released “100 Best Songs of the 2020s” and ranked 23rd with the track “Ditto” from the New Jeans single “OMG.” Ditto is the only K-pop on the list, which includes works by global pop stars such as Billie Eilish, SZA Fiona Apple, and The 1975.
“When thinking about the state of K-POP in the 2020s, no group has surged quite as loudly as NewJeans, and their 2022 single “Ditto” is simply one of the greatest songs the genre has ever produced,” Paste said about New Jeans and ‘Ditto.’ “New Jeans boldly sheds the colorful EDM and excessively sweet maximalism of K-pop at present, and presents a groovy and elegant future,” the PASTE said. “Ditto’ is a slam-dunk example of New Jeans’ burgeoning genre royalty and their high-tempo star power.” Matt Mitchell commented on New Jeans Ditto.
“Ditto,” released on December 19, 2022, is a song that features a warm melody and warm vocals from New Jeans. With “Ditto,” New Jeans entered the U.S. Billboard main song chart “Hot 100” and the U.K. official single “Top 100” six months after its debut. On Melon, a major domestic music site, it topped the overall annual chart in 2023, setting a record of 99 consecutive days on the daily chart and 14 consecutive weeks on the weekly chart.
In addition, in the “100 Best Albums in History” released by Paste last month, New Jeans’ second EP “Get Up” was ranked 52nd.
“The album, which contains six songs in just 12 minutes, provides a sophisticated and subtle sound that melts the R&B and club atmosphere in a way that was previously not well utilized in K-pop,” Paste said.
“With the release of this album, New Jeans has reached a new level once again,” he said, highlighting his record as No. 1 in the Billboard 200. New Jeans topped the U.S. Billboard 200 in the shortest period after debuting among K-pop groups of all time, and put the album’s triple titles “Super Shy,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You” on the “Hot 100” all at once.
