NewJeans Announces Hiatus Following Legal Setback, NJZ’s 1 day activity
NewJeans (NJZ) has declared a temporary halt to their activities following a recent court decision. The group made this emotional announcement during their performance at ComplexCon in Hong Kong on March 23, 2025.
Emotional Final Performance
During their Complex Con stage, the members read prepared letters to their fans. Haerin expressed, “I feel really heavy-hearted to deliver this news. In fact, today’s stage might be our last. We’ve decided to temporarily stop all activities out of respect for the court’s decision. It’s not an easy choice, but it’s necessary for us right now.”
Minji added, “We knew better than anyone that the path we chose wouldn’t be easy. That’s why, while accepting the court’s decision, we raised our voices to protect the values we believe in and each other. We don’t regret this choice.”

Legal Context and Future Plans
The announcement comes in the wake of a court ruling on March 21, 2025, which granted ADOR’s injunction request against NewJeans. This decision effectively prevents the group from engaging in independent musical activities without ADOR’s agreement until the main trial’s first verdict.
Addressing their future, Minji stated, “We respect the court’s decision. We’re going to take a step back for a while, catch our breath, and gather our thoughts. After that, we’ll move forward with renewed strength. We want you to know this isn’t the end, and we will definitely return. When we do, we want to meet you all with bright smiles.”
Controversy and Determination
The group’s stance has stirred controversy, particularly following their interview with TIME magazine where they stated, “This might be the reality of Korea. But change and growth are needed. Korea seems to be trying to make us revolutionaries.”
Despite the challenges, Hyein emphasized their resolve: “Some might think it would have been better if we had just endured silently. But for us, this is about protecting ourselves, and we believe that’s how we’ll become stronger and be able to return. That’s why we absolutely don’t regret this choice.”
As NewJeans takes this unprecedented step in their career, fans and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see how this situation unfolds and what it might mean for the future of K-pop artist-agency relationships.
