Announces Termination of Exclusive Contract with ADOR and HYBE
The popular K-pop girl group NewJeans has called for the termination of its exclusive contract with its agency, ADOR, signaling a shift away from HYBE. However, it remains unclear whether NewJeans will be able to leave ADOR and HYBE as it is, as it is only a simple position of NewJeans, and the contents of the contract between the two sides have not been disclosed yet.
NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein) held an emergency press conference on the 28th afternoon at the SpaceShare Samsung Station Center in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Regarding the reason for holding an emergency press conference on this day, Hanni said, “The correction deadline for the correction request we sent to ADOR will end as soon as midnight on the 28th. However, even though today’s business hours are over, HYBE and ADOR show no room for improvement or willingness to meet our demands. In fact, we have an overseas schedule tomorrow, so we leave for Japan in the morning and come in next week, and in the meantime, we have had a lot of conversations among ourselves because we don’t know what HYBE and ADOR will do and want to accurately convey our position, and we have no choice but to hold an emergency press conference today.”
NewJeans emphasized that the exclusive contract with ADOR will be terminated from midnight on the 29th, citing a lack of sincerity and responsiveness from the company.
NewJeans’ Future Plans and Key Statements
NewJean members, who plans to leave ADOR and HYBE, has announced their intention to continue working with Min Hee-jin. Minji said, “We are planning to proceed with all the scheduled schedules and would like to continue working with Min Heejin if possible. I want to continue to do good activities with Min in the future.” Hyein added, “I haven’t talked with Min Heejin , but I think the former CEO probably feels the same way as us.”
Danielle further emphasized their desire to work with Min Hee-jin, stating, “In the future, we want to work with our favorite music and people we like. (Min Hee-jin) If you want, I want to do those things with you.”
In a notable moment during the press conference, when asked if Newjeans members had anything they wanted to say to Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, Minji said firmly, “I don’t think I have anything else to say to him.”
The group also addressed concerns about their ability to use the name ‘NewJeans’ after contract termination and their plans to honor existing commitments and advertisements. The NewJeans members emphasized that while they may face challenges with the group name, their essence as five members remains unchanged.
Earlier on the 13th, NewJeans sent proof of contents to ADOR under the real names of five members, demanding corrections for alleged contract violations within 14 days. The group stated their intention to terminate the contract if their requests were not met, setting the stage for the current situation.
