Why NewJeans Minji and Danielle Appeared in Court for ADOR Contract Dispute
Minji and Danielle of K-pop girl group NewJeans appeared in person at the Seoul Central District Court on August 14 for mediation in their exclusive contract dispute with agency ADOR.
Closed-Door Mediation at the Seoul Central District Court
At 2 p.m., the Civil Agreement Division 41 of the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Judge Jeong Hoe-il, began closed-door mediation between ADOR and NewJeans over the validity of their exclusive contract.
At the court’s request, the members attended the mediation session in person — a move that drew considerable attention.
Brief Words Before Entering
Before entering the courthouse, reporters asked, “How do you see the possibility of a settlement today?” and “What conditions do you think are necessary for an agreement with ADOR?” Minji and Danielle simply replied, “We’re sorry,” before heading inside.
Positions of Both Sides
ADOR maintains that the exclusive contract with NewJeans remains valid, promising to support new album releases and activities if the group returns.
NewJeans, however, insists they can no longer trust ADOR since former CEO Min Hee-jin and other staff members who supported them have left the company.
Possible Outcomes
If mediation succeeds, it will carry the same legal effect as a judicial settlement. However, if talks fail, the court has tentatively scheduled the verdict for October 30.
