NewJeans New Instagram Sparks Controversy Over Bio Colors
NewJeans’ newly launched Instagram account has quickly become a hot topic, serving as a direct communication channel between the group and their fans after the group left the agency, ADOR.
A Fresh Start After Leaving ADOR
The Instagram account, @jeanzforfree, was created following NewJeans’ announced departure from ADOR. Initially managed by staff, the group confirmed its authenticity through an Instagram Story. Since then, NewJeans has used the platform to share updates, photos, and heartfelt messages with their fans.
The Bio Controversy: Clash Over Colored Hearts
The controversy erupted over the account’s original bio, which featured five colored hearts: blue, pink, yellow, green, and purple. These colors have been associated with NewJeans since their debut. However, Red Velvet fans quickly pointed out that these colors were identical to their group’s symbolic palette.
This similarity sparked a heated debate between NewJeans and Red Velvet fans. Red Velvet fans argued that these colors hold deep significance for their group, playing a crucial role in their branding across comebacks, solo projects, and endorsements. They criticized Min Hee Jin, suggesting she should have chosen different colors for NewJeans given her past association with Red Velvet.
“The issue isn’t with the symbolic colors themselves, but it’s frustrating that both groups have five members and all five colors overlap. Red Velvet debuted in 2014 with two-tone hair dyed in these colors, so did they really have to overlap like this…!!! It’s not like there are only five colors in the world…”
“You get angry when HYBE copies ADOR, but it’s okay for you to copy the symbolic colors of a senior group that you produced, colors that even non-fans know about? Isn’t this a double standard??? Have some business ethics, are you crazy???”
“Each color even has a corresponding fruit. Moreover, because there’s no blue fruit, they created ‘blue orange’…”
“Red Velvet’s member-specific symbolic colors are such a core part of their group concept and identity that they even dyed the ends of their hair in these colors during their debut activities. Using these are going too far.”

Swift Action: From Hearts to Animals
Amid the growing controversy, NewJeans took quick action to address the issue. They updated their Instagram bio, replacing the disputed colored hearts with each member’s representative animal. This change was an attempt to diffuse the tension and create a unique identifier for the group.
A Platform for Connection
Despite the controversy, NewJeans’ Instagram continues to thrive as a space for fans to engage with the group. The account reflects their evolving identity and serves as a bridge between NewJeans and their supporters as they navigate this new chapter in their career.
