NewJeans Declares Legal Battle Against ADOR and HYBE: “We Will No Longer Stay Silent”
NewJeans, the five-member K-pop group consisting of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, has announced their decision to take legal action against their former agency ADOR and its parent company HYBE. The group made their stance clear through handwritten letters shared on their social media accounts on January 23, 2025.
Legal Representation by Law Firm Sejong
In their statement, NewJeans revealed that they had received court documents from ADOR a few days prior, including an application for an injunction to prohibit them from signing contracts independently. To counter these actions, they have appointed Law Firm Sejong as their legal representative. Sejong had previously represented Min Hee-jin, the former head of ADOR, in legal disputes against HYBE.
The group explained their decision to work with Sejong, stating:
“Given that Sejong is already familiar with the issues and misconduct of HYBE and ADOR, we believe they are the most suitable firm to represent us in this rapidly progressing case.”
Allegations Against ADOR and HYBE
NewJeans reiterated their inability to continue working with ADOR and HYBE, accusing both entities of failing to fulfill their responsibilities as an agency. They claimed:
“Even after the lawful termination of our exclusive contract, baseless criticisms about us have been spread through the media and YouTube channels—information that could only have come from ADOR or HYBE.”
The group further alleged that ADOR and HYBE had been engaging in underhanded tactics to manipulate them:
“While publicly asking us to return, they have continued to harass and attack us behind the scenes. Recently, they even secretly met with some of our parents in an attempt to persuade or create division among us.”

Firm Stance Against Returning
NewJeans emphasized that they have no intention of returning to ADOR or HYBE:
“We cannot expect even the minimum level of good faith from them. We will never go back.”
The members concluded by stating their determination to fight for justice:
“We have decided to no longer remain silent. Through legal procedures, we will clearly expose the wrongdoing of ADOR and HYBE and reveal the truth. We will stand confidently in court.”
Background on the Dispute
ADOR previously filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court seeking confirmation of the validity of NewJeans’ exclusive contract until July 31, 2029. They also applied for an injunction prohibiting NewJeans from signing independent contracts or engaging in activities without the agency’s approval. ADOR argued that the group’s independent actions could harm their brand value and lead to financial instability for the agency.
In November 2024, NewJeans held a press conference declaring that their trust in ADOR and HYBE had been irreparably damaged and announced the termination of their exclusive contract. They stated plans to pursue independent activities moving forward.
