NewJeans Performs Without Official Name Following Contract Dispute
K-pop group NewJeans took the stage in Korea for the first time since announcing their contract termination, but with a notable difference – they performed without using their official group name.
Nameless Performance
On December 7, the five members appeared as guests at Yoasobi’s concert at Inspire Arena in Incheon. Minji, Danielle, Haerin, Hanni, and Hyein greeted the audience individually, avoiding their group name. The NewJeans logo, typically displayed as stage background, was conspicuously absent.
Trademark Complications
The group’s inability to use their name stems from a trademark dispute with their former agency, ADOR. Following the NewJeans contract termination announcement on November 28, it was revealed that ADOR holds the trademark rights to “NewJeans”.
Performance Details
Despite performing without their official name, the group delivered their hit “How Sweet” and collaborated with Yoasobi’s vocalist Ikura on “Like Now” and “Biri-Biri”. While Yoasobi referred to them as NewJeans, the members themselves refrained from using the name.

Legal Standoff
ADOR filed a lawsuit on December 5 to confirm the validity of their exclusive contract. However, the five members maintain they are no longer part of ADOR as of November 29, 2024, asserting that the agency cannot interfere with their activities.

However, NewJeans performs without official name makes fans worried if the group will regain use of their name.
