NewJeans redebut as NJZ, Amid ADOR starts Legal Battle in March, Hanni E-6 VISA problem mentioned again
K-pop group NewJeans has officially changed its name to NJZ and announced plans for independent activities, including a performance at the ComplexCon Hong Kong festival in March. This move comes as the group is engaged in a legal dispute with its former agency, ADOR.
Name Change and Legal Dispute
NJZ revealed its new name and promotional photos through its official social media accounts, which have been rebranded from “jeanzforfree” to “njz_official.” The group members expressed excitement about their new identity and upcoming performances.
However, ADOR has expressed regret over the name change, stating that it occurred before a legal judgment on the contract dispute. ADOR maintains that the contract with NewJeans is valid until July 2029 and has filed a lawsuit to confirm its validity.
Upcoming Activities as NJZ
NJZ will debut under its new name at the ComplexCon Hong Kong festival, where they will perform on March 21-23. The group plans to release a new song on March 23, marking their official debut as NJZ. They also mentioned that they will soon have a new agent.
Challenges Ahead
Despite their enthusiasm, NJZ faces several challenges. The legal battle with ADOR is set to begin in March, with a court hearing scheduled for March 7 regarding ADOR’s request for an injunction to maintain its agency status. Additionally, Hanni’s visa issues remain unresolved, as her current E-6 visa, issued through ADOR, is set to expire. If she does not return to ADOR, obtaining a new visa could become complicated.
However, NJZ has stated in live streaming, that the agency issue will be resolved soon, suggesting that finding a new agency could also help resolve the visa problem.
March would be the turning point for the group’s future. Back to ADOR or stay as independent NJZ.
