OMEGA X Hwichan Cleared of Indecent Assault Charges Due to “Insufficient Evidence”

OMEGA X member Hwichan has been officially cleared of the indecent assault charges filed against him. According to his agency, IPQ, on December 17, the prosecution decided not to indict Hwichan regarding the allegations that he had forcibly molested “A,” the former CEO of his previous agency

The legal battle began in March last year when Spire Entertainment, the group’s former label, held a press conference and filed a criminal complaint against Hwichan. At the time, former CEO Kang claimed that Hwichan had assaulted her while she was comforting him regarding his upcoming military enlistment, and released CCTV footage as supposed evidence.

However, the members of OMEGA X had previously accused CEO Kang of physical assault, verbal abuse, and habitual sexual harassment. They won their injunction to suspend their exclusive contract with Spire Entertainment in early 2023 and moved to their current home, IPQ, in July of the same year.

Throughout the investigation, Hwichan and IPQ consistently requested the submission and verification of the full, unedited CCTV footage. Notably, during the police investigation, the original footage was never submitted or verified. After nearly two years of investigation, the prosecution concluded the case with a non-indictment decision, finally exonerating Hwichan from all charges.

IPQ stated, “Hwichan has suffered from a long-term social stigma and severe mental distress due to false accusations, and the damage extended to the members of OMEGA X and their families.” The agency added, “The investigation results have confirmed that Hwichan did not commit any criminal acts. We hope that distorted claims and malicious allegations will no longer be repeated.”
