Ravi and Nafla, who were convicted of military service corruption in the first trial, were sentenced for probation.
On the 9th, the Seoul Southern District Court held a sentencing date for Ravi and Nafla, who were indicted on charges of violating the Military Service Act.
Ravi avoiding military and probation
Earlier, the first trial court ordered Ravi to serve 120 hours with one year in prison and two years of probation. After being spared prison, Ravi accepted the first trial ruling and expressed his intention not to appeal, but the prosecution filed an appeal on the grounds of unfair sentencing. At the time, the prosecution asked Ravi to serve two years in prison.
At the sentencing date, the court upheld Ravi’s original ruling. However, in the case of Nafla, the original ruling was overturned. The court said, “In the case of Nafla, the sentence will be renewed. Choi Seok-bae(Nafla) will be sentenced to one year and two months in prison, and execution will be suspended for two years from the date of confirmation. I also order 120 hours of community service.”
According to the prosecution, Ravi is suspected of conspiring with the military service broker Koo to receive a false medical certificate by pretending to be a fake epilepsy patient, and attempting to exempt him from military service. Ravi avoiding military, and was found to have been tested at a hospital after receiving a “epilepsy scenario” from Koo, acting as if he fainted. When Ravi submitted a medical certificate to the Military Manpower Administration in 2021, Koo sent a message saying, “Good, it’s a military exemption.”
At the first trial held in April last year, Ravi admitted all the prosecution’s indictment. Ravi, who was judged to be a level 4 supplementary service member, has been serving as a social worker since October last year.
