Red Velvet Joy Makes Solo Comeback With First Mini-Album From JOY, with Love — Featuring Title Track Love Splash! Out Today (18th)
Red Velvet’s Joy officially releases her highly anticipated first mini-album From JOY, with Love today, August 18 at 6 p.m. KST. The album includes six tracks highlighting different stories of love, led by the refreshing pop dance title track Love Splash!. Fans can also watch the Love Splash! music video, which drops simultaneously on SMTOWN’s official YouTube channel.
Joy Shares Her Thoughts on ‘From JOY, with Love’
Q. This is your first mini-album, coming about four years after your special album. How do you feel?
- Releasing an album filled with my personal emotions once felt vague and difficult, but thanks to so many supportive people, it has finally come to life. I’m truly grateful and hope many people will listen and give it love since I prepared with all my heart.
Q. What was the main focus while preparing this album?
- I asked myself constantly, “What do I want to say?” That led me to express the greatness and preciousness of love that I experienced while overcoming difficult moments. It was a challenge to present such a big theme in an approachable way. I also paid attention to reflecting my individuality in both the music and visuals.
Q. Tell us about the title track Love Splash! and why you chose it.
- Love Splash! captures the excitement of falling in love for the first time with a fluttering beat, pretty lyrics, and melody. I chose it as the title track because it’s the song I could visualize best on stage and in the music video, and I felt confident that my voice could express its lovable mood perfectly.
Q. You shot four different album jacket concepts based on the theme of love. Which stood out the most?
- Friendship Love remains the most memorable. To me, “Friendship Love” instantly means Red Velvet and our fandom, ReVeluv. For the shoot, we even designed custom uniforms that remind people of Red Velvet, which made me nostalgic throughout filming.
Q. What’s the highlight of the Love Splash! MV and any memorable moments during filming?
- The highlight is definitely the vintage color tones, the kitschy outfits and props, and the storyline that embodies the song’s sweetness. A funny memory was having to shoot a quarrel scene with the male lead, model Yugo, right after meeting him. It felt awkward at first, but thanks to his cooperation, filming went smoothly.
Q. Recently, what have you been most “splashing into”?
- Honestly, I’ve been thinking about From JOY, with Love 24/7. I really hope everyone can “dive” into my first mini-album the way I have.
Q. With your popularity on I Live Alone and now your solo comeback, what are your plans and goals?
- I always want my work to be sincere and genuine. For now, my full focus is on sharing this album with the world. My biggest goal is simply for as many people as possible to hear it!
Q. Any final words for fans around the world who’ve been waiting?
- ReVeluv, my first mini-album is finally here!! It’s thanks to your anticipation and love that it could be released. I’ll repay you with even greater love. Thank you and I love you always!
