SEVENTEEN SCoups, Epik High Tukutz, Younha, and Lee Mujin Become Full Members of KOMCA

SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups, Epik High’s Tukutz, Younha, and Lee Mujin have officially been promoted to full members of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA). On January 24, 2025, KOMCA announced the names of 30 individuals who achieved full membership status this year.

What is KOMCA Membership?

KOMCA manages the copyrights of domestic music creators, including lyricists, composers, and arrangers. Every January, the association selects full members from associate members based on their copyright royalty earnings and membership duration. Full membership is a significant milestone for artists as it recognizes their contributions to the music industry.

SEVENTEEN S.Coups: The Third KOMCA Member from SEVENTEEN

S.Coups (Choi Seungcheol), SEVENTEEN’s leader, earned his promotion by contributing to the group’s hit songs such as “Super,” “God of Music,” “Don’t Wanna Cry,” and “Very NICE.” He follows in the footsteps of Woozi (2019) and Vernon (2024), becoming the third SEVENTEEN member to achieve this honor. Three Seventeen members.

Younha: A Singer-Songwriter with Chart-Topping Hits

Younha (Go Younha) also joined the ranks of full KOMCA membership this year. Known for her self-composed hit “Event Horizon,” which saw a resurgence in popularity years after its release, Younha has solidified her position as a talented singer-songwriter. Her other notable works include “Waiting,” “Comet,” and “Stardust.”

Lee Mujin: Rising Star in Korean Music

Singer-songwriter Lee Mujin gained recognition through his heartfelt compositions like “Traffic Light,” “Crosswalk,” and “Episode.” After finishing third on JTBC’s Sing Again, he has continued to captivate audiences with his unique musical style. His promotion to full membership reflects his growing influence in the industry.

Epik High’s Tukutz: Completing the Trio

Epik High’s Tukutz (Kim Jungshik) also made the list, joining fellow members Tablo and Mithra Jin as full KOMCA members. Tukutz has been instrumental in shaping Epik High’s distinctive sound since their debut album Map of the Human Soul. His promotion marks a significant moment for the group as all three members are now recognized for their contributions to Korean music.

Other Notable Promotions

The 2025 list also includes prominent figures like The Quiett (Shin Donggap), GroovyRoom’s Hwimin, and MayBee (Kim Eunji). These artists have left a significant mark on K-pop, hip-hop, and indie music scenes through their creative works.

In addition to mainstream artists, KOMCA recognized creators from non-pop genres such as traditional Korean music (gugak), children’s songs, and religious music. This year’s promotions included Hwang Jina (gugak), Choi Shingyu (children’s songs), and Jung Sungshil (religious music).

Industry Significance

KOMCA’s annual announcement of full members serves as an indicator of trends in Korea’s music industry. A KOMCA representative stated:

“We hope that this year’s promoted members will continue to elevate K-pop’s global status and contribute to the sustainable growth of Korea’s music industry.”

As these artists celebrate their achievements, fans eagerly anticipate how they will continue to shape Korea’s vibrant music scene.
