Stalker Who Broke into NewJeans Dorm 3 Times Identified and Indicted
A male fan in his 20s has been indicted for breaking into the dorm of K-pop girl group NewJeans and stealing personal items. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office announced on April 25 that the man, referred to as A, has been indicted without detention on charges of trespassing and theft.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on December 21, 2023, when A unlawfully entered NewJeans’ former shared dorm in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and stole items including hangers and banners.
Repeated Trespassing and Connection to Previous Threats
Investigations revealed that this was not an isolated incident. Police confirmed that A had also broken into the same dorm three days earlier, on December 18, and later returned once more, taking advantage of an unlocked door to enter again. At the time of the intrusion, the NewJeans members had already vacated the dorm following their contract termination with ADOR in November 2023.
The case has caused further alarm as it follows a previous threat posted online in August, where an anonymous user claimed to have located NewJeans’ dorm and posted a message saying they would “find the exact unit next time.” It remains unclear whether A was responsible for the online threat.
Legal Disputes between ADOR and NewJeans and Ongoing Hiatus
The incident comes amid ongoing legal disputes between NewJeans and their former agency, ADOR. In November, the group announced they were terminating their exclusive contracts, citing breach of agreement. In February, they revealed plans to promote under the name NJZ, but ADOR filed an injunction to block the use of the new name and prevent the group from signing advertising contracts.
The court sided with ADOR, and the group’s independent activities were halted. As of now, all NewJeans members remain inactive.
