BTS Suga DUI trial is not planned!

Group BTS Sugar, who drove an electric scooter after drinking, was summarily charged with a fine of 15 million won without a formal trial.

According to the legal community on the 11th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office’s Criminal Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor Choo Hye Yoon) briefly indicted Suga, who was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, on the previous day.

Summary prosecution is a procedure in which the prosecution decides that the charges are relatively light, proceeds with a written hearing without handing it over to a formal trial, and asks the court to issue a summary order such as fines, fines, and confiscation. If the party or the court does not express its intention to go to trial, the sentence will be confirmed without trial.

Prosecutors filed a summary order for a fine of 15 million won to Suga, who is currently working as a social service worker, is suspected of driving an electric scooter after drinking on the road and sidewalk in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the night of June 6. Suga was found to have fallen by police who were on patrol nearby at the time. According to the result of the alcohol consumption test, the blood alcohol level was 0.227 percent, which far exceeds the criterion for revocation of a license (0.08 percent).

Under the Road Traffic Act, the electric scooter driven by Suga is classified as a motorized bicycle, not a personal mobile device, and is subject to the same level of drunk driving legal disposition as a car. Suga, who attended the police on the 23rd of last month, admitted to charges related to drunk driving in a three-hour investigation.

At the time of the police investigation, Suga bowed and apologized to reporters, saying, “I sincerely reflect on the disappointment of many fans and many people,” and police handed over Suga, who is suspected of driving under the Road Traffic Act, to the prosecution a week later without further investigation.

As the prosecution briefly prosecuted Suga, the fine is expected to be finalized if Suga or the court does not request a formal trial.
