THE BOYZ Kevin Issues Public Apology After Baseball Game Controversy on 23rd
Kevin Apologizes for Controversial Gesture at Kiwoom Heroes Baseball Game
Kevin, a member of the K-pop group THE BOYZ, has issued a formal apology after sparking backlash for his actions at a recent baseball game. On April 19, Kevin and fellow member Eric were invited to participate in the ceremonial first pitch and hit at the Kiwoom Heroes vs. KT Wiz game at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome. While both members received applause for their roles, controversy erupted after Kevin was seen supporting a rival team during the event.
Kevin was photographed in the stands holding up his phone with a note that read, “I hope the day comes when I sing the national anthem in Gwangju, the hometown of the Kia Tigers.” When fans nearby couldn’t read the message, Kevin reportedly made the text larger and showed it again. This gesture was widely criticized by baseball fans, who considered it inappropriate and disrespectful to mention another team while attending as a guest of the home team, especially while seated in premium seats provided by the Kiwoom Heroes.
The incident drew further attention as Eric, who is known to be a devoted Kiwoom Heroes fan, had placed special significance on the ceremonial pitch. Kevin’s actions were seen as undermining the event’s meaning for both Eric and Kiwoom fans.
THE BOYZ Faces Growing Scrutiny Amid Member Controversies and Public Apologies
In response to the backlash, Kevin posted a statement on THE BOYZ’s official social media, saying, “I sincerely apologize to the fans who love baseball and The B (THE BOYZ’s fandom). On April 19, I was warmly welcomed by the Kiwoom officials, and I am grateful for the precious opportunity. However, my careless words and actions during that meaningful moment caused discomfort to many.
At a significant moment marking the start of the game, my support should have been directed solely at the Kiwoom players. However, I mentioned another team and acted thoughtlessly. I truly apologize to those who were upset by this.” He also apologized directly to Eric and promised to be more mindful of his words and actions in the future.
This is the second official apology from THE BOYZ members in recent weeks, following Sunwoo’s statement regarding a separate controversy. As THE BOYZ members enters their eighth year as a group, the members have faced increased scrutiny over their off-stage behavior, with fans and the public watching closely to see how they address and move forward from these incidents.

Did THE BOYZ switch agencies just to write apology letters..?
First, the Sunwoo apology incident
Second, the Kevin apology incident
At this rate, we’ll probably get up to the 11th apology.
Maybe even Hur Hyunjoon will write an apology letter someday.

After hearing about Kevin’s national anthem performance and ceremonial hit, every woman on my timeline said he should leave. But we have manners, so we didn’t say anything on main about how anyone could even call for Kevin. So why did Kevin do this right in front of us—are you out of your mind?
@heroesjoa
Alright! From now on, instead of unwanted appearances at Gocheok Dome, I hope you go to Gwangju, where you want to be, and do the first pitch, ceremonial hit, and even sing the national anthem! Go Kevin, fighting!
@babojilongkk
I’m not even sorry—I didn’t even know there was someone named Kevin in THE BOYZ. As long as we have Eric its fine, don’t ever show up at Gocheok again. Just leave.
