YouTuber Sojang sentenced by prosecutors for 4 years
The prosecution demanded a four-year prison term for Park, the operator of the YouTube channel Taldeok concentration camp, on charges of defamation and insult.
The Incheon District Court held a final hearing on charges of defamation and insults under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection on the 23rd.
On the same day, the prosecution asked the court to sentence Park to four years in prison and an additional 211,421,152 won, and said, “She insulted the victims five times. She actively posted videos of false facts to damage artists’ reputation,” adding, “She interfered with the victims’ management activities at the agency. Please consider the fact that the paid membership system was operated and the contents of the video were about the victim’s appearance, personality, and sexual relationship.”
The YouTuber Sojang is accused of making and distributing false information about EXO Suho and aespa Karina as contents and earning economic benefits.
In response, Youtuber Sojang trial closing argument was, “We acknowledge all the prosecution,” adding, “It was an act of willful negligence and was not intended to generate profits. The defendant is currently volunteering and receiving mental treatment. We are trying to reach an agreement with the victim, and we have tried to mediate in a civil trial, but we have difficulty reaching an agreement. We will try to reach an agreement until the end.”
The lawyer continued, “The defendant has been trying to make a positive impact on society, such as volunteering since this case. We will make efforts to recover from the damage to the end. Please give us maximum tolerance.”
Reading her letter of apology, YouTuber Sojang Park said, “I am sorry and deeply sorry for causing such a big injury to the victims. I regret that I looked back on myself objectively and that I caused such a big injury. I was constantly pessimistic about my guilt. I wanted to have a positive impact on society and become a necessary person through volunteer activities. I gained good energy by being with people who are not on the Internet. I think I couldn’t judge more because I was stuck in my own world such as the Internet. I will live with responsibility from now on. I am truly repenting for this incident.”
The sentencing date for YouTuber Sojang Park was scheduled for December 18.
